Commissioner fails to get second for motion to pursue legislation on dam reconstruction interest funds

Commissioner Kim Sherwood asked the board to place a discussion on next month’s agenda asking the city to pursue legislation that would authorize Boiling Spring Lakes to retain interest earned on the state’s $22 million dam reconstruction appropriation. Sherwood said retaining the accrued interest, which she estimated "close to 2 million," would provide funds to address road damage and other infrastructure impacts from the dam reconstruction without additional state funding.
Sherwood called for documented communication with state leaders and formal legislative action, but her motion received no second and therefore did not advance. Commissioners discussed finished floor elevation (FFE) standards and staff work on updating the flood ordinance as separate agenda follow-ups.
