Public Works representative Baker (S10) asked the board to approve leases for a mini excavator and a wheel loader for the water/wastewater division. Baker said both transactions were procured through Sourcewell, a competitively bid cooperative purchasing program, and that the county received substantial discounts: "The mini excavator came with an $18,000 discount ... and then Cat put on additional $5,600 discount for Worcester County," Baker said. He said the wheel loader included a $45,000 Sourcewell discount plus a $19,000 vendor discount.
Commissioners asked about brand selection and competitive sourcing; Baker said Sourcewell listings are reviewed and that Cat equipment provided parts interchangeability and reliability for county needs. The board approved the leases unanimously.
Why it matters: The purchases replace aging equipment in the water/wastewater division and were approved within budgeted amounts using cooperative procurement discounts.
