Council heard a history of the Military West pedestrian bridge: a Republic Services truck struck the bridge on Jan. 31, 2023, and the structure was demolished four days later.
Staff recounted the decision to replace the bridge with a prefabricated span, the preparation of design documents, and that in December 2024 the city approved a settlement agreement with Republic Services for approximately $2.5 million. The settlement and subsequent design approvals allowed the city to move forward with bidding and procurement.
