The Venetian City Council approved the award of a construction contract and a budget amendment for the Military West Pedestrian Bridge replacement and barrier removal project.
City staff recommended Leonida Builders Incorporated as the lowest responsible bidder and the council voted to award the contract. "We would expect to start work somewhere in the last 2 weeks of June," the city engineer said, adding the prefabricated bridge is already fabricated and staged out of state.
Staff told the council the project replaces a pedestrian bridge that was struck and later demolished following a Jan. 31, 2023 collision. The approved schedule calls for foundation and abutment work during July and August, installation of the prefabricated span around Labor Day, and final completion and an anticipated opening around Nov. 1. The council made the award by roll-call vote; four yes votes were recorded and the motion carried.
