Council unappoints Lake City Law; motion to appoint Vernon & Weeks fails, administration to advertise

On Jan. 8, 2025, the Harrison City Council voted to unappoint Lake City Law as the city attorney. Councilmember Josephine Prophet moved the unappointment; the motion passed with four votes in favor and two opposed. Will Butler’s subsequent motion to appoint Vernon & Weeks as the city attorney failed; only Debbie Lockart and Josephine Prophet voted Aye while four councilmembers voted Nay.
Following the failed appointment, the mayor instructed the Administration Committee to draft a newspaper advertisement for the city attorney position and to review applicable Idaho and city code provisions regarding publication of the advertisement. The minutes do not indicate any interim legal representation arrangements; staff follow-up on legal coverage and advertising logistics was directed to the Administration Committee.
