The council considered a first reading of an ordinance approving conveyance of the B Avenue Ballpark to the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission. Justin Black presented the matter and council members asked whether deed protections would preserve the site as a park and whether the county planned improvements.
Staff said the recreation commission does plan improvements and council members noted existing maintenance issues at the ballpark. The first reading received a motion, a second and a unanimous vote to proceed with the ordinance's first reading.
"We have the 1st reading of the consideration of an ordinance approving the conveyance of the B Avenue Ballpark to Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission," the presiding official said when introducing the item.
