Council honors West Columbia pastor elected bishop of South Carolina Synod

The City of West Columbia city council read and unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing the election of Wade Thomas Ruth III as bishop of the South Carolina Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Anna Huffman read the resolution, noting Reverend Ruth’s service at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church in West Columbia and his pastoral history since 2009, and stating that he will assume the office on 09/01/2026. "We have a resolution recognizing Bishop Wade Roof, for being elected Bishop of the South Carolina Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America," the resolution reader said during the meeting.
Several council members offered personal congratulations and recalled Mount Tabor’s historical ties to the community. The council approved the resolution by unanimous voice/hand vote and invited the bishop-elect and council members to a photo after the meeting.
