The Belmont Police Department formally swore in five new officers at the Aug. 3 council meeting.
Police Chief (speaker 9) introduced the ceremony and summarized each officer's background before calling each to the dais. The new officers named by the chief were Felix Ortega, Logan Brandon, Oscar Jose Randeros, John Delaney and Corey Blanton. Tyler Graham read the oath and each officer affirmed the oath. The chief said the oath is a promise "to uphold the law, protect the rights of all people, and to serve this community with dignity, respect, and fairness."
Later in the meeting the chief told council that, with the five new officers, "we're actually at full staff." He also said a plan of action for the start of the school year would be provided to staff and council and that many officers would be on duty during the first weeks of school to aid in drop-off and pick-up safety.
