Health Director Lillian Koontz told the Davidson County Board of Health on June 2 that County Manager Casey Smith has submitted his resignation and will leave mid-July, and that Tim Maness has accepted the assistant county manager role after roughly 20 years with the county.
"We will have an interim county manager until the new Davidson County Board of Commissioners is set," Koontz said, adding that the commissioners will begin seeking candidates for the manager position once the new board is seated. Koontz identified Manessas previously serving as the county budget officer.
Board members did not take formal action on the county manager vacancy during the meeting; Koontz flagged the change as part of routine administrative updates tied to staffing and budget planning for the coming fiscal year. She also noted that school nursing staffing changes follow the school calendar: "School is out for the summer, and we have said goodbye to most of our school nurses for the summer break," and that recruitment for two PHN I school health positions will begin after July 1 (one temporary, one full-time budgeted post).
