Multiple public commenters urged local residents and businesses to "start buying locally" and flagged concerns about tariffs, possible job losses and the broader economic outlook.
One commenter said the community should "keep everything local if we want to try to expand forward," and asked staff to clarify which voter-approved measures (C, B and F) appear in the report. A board member later identified for the record that County Supervisor Monica Brown was speaking at that point and thanked her for the comment.
Board members and staff thanked the public for the input and answered questions on Measure A (transient-occupancy, or hotel, tax), Measure B and the newly effective Measure F; staff clarified Measure A increases the city's transient-occupancy tax rate from 9% to 13% and that Measure F, effective April 1, will show in future revenue reports. The board noted public concern about potential impacts should a major employer change operations and said the Valero study (announced by staff) will help quantify revenue and employment risks.
