Commission member warns state bill could strip Shelby County authority over pilots

Janice Banks told the committee she watched state committee proceedings and described a bill she considered a potential power grab that would reassign local pilot authority to a state board.
"the bill that they had before the house and the senate would have stripped Shelby County of all of our authority in terms of, pilot and and, our authority and ability to grant pilots and would have given it to a state board," Banks said, adding that one sponsor agreed to withdraw the measure from notice in that chamber. Members said they would continue to track legislative activity and consider a letter to legislators if the bill resurfaces.
The committee did not take action on lobbying or drafting correspondence at this meeting but agreed to monitor the legislation and reconvene after gathering agency input and counsel's draft language on the moratorium.
