County office concurs with Loma Prieta district’s "positive" interim fiscal certification

The Santa Clara County Office of Education has reviewed the Loma Prieta Joint Union School District’s first interim fiscal report and "concurs with the district's positive certification," the board was told during public correspondence read into the record by the clerk.

The county’s letter, read aloud at the meeting, said the review found the interim report "fairly reflects our financial status" and that the district is projected to meet its financial obligations during the current and two subsequent fiscal years, while urging staff to continue monitoring that ongoing revenues align with expenditures. "They recommend the district continues to monitor that ongoing revenues are in alignment with outgoing, expenditures," the clerk read.

Board members thanked business services staff for producing the report. The correspondence was presented during the meeting’s brief closed-session report; the board president also told the public no actions had been taken in closed session prior to the regular meeting.

Why it matters: A "positive certification" signals that county reviewers judged the district’s near-term finances to be sound under current assumptions. The county’s recommendation to continue monitoring is standard practice; board members said they will receive regular updates and that the district will bring more detailed budget reports at upcoming meetings.
