Chloe Anderson, a parent of two, told the Loma Prieta Joint Union Elementary board that her son Jackson was born on 09/02/2021 at 3:00 a.m. and missed the kindergarten age cutoff by about three hours. She said she has letters from Jackson’s therapist and from his preschool director at Building Blocks supporting his readiness and placement with age‑peers, and asked the board to consider a narrowly drawn exception or discretionary review.
Anderson said that when she raised the matter with Principal Ramsey and Dr. Greer the conversation shifted from Jackson’s placement to her daughter’s attendance, which she found confusing. She also said she had been told the day’s meeting was a closed session and was frustrated to learn the meeting was open; she asked the board to clarify avenues for parents to provide input and to explain, in writing, the policy basis for any denial of an exception. “I respectfully ask that the board consider allowing my son, Jackson Anderson, to attend kindergarten at Loma Prieta Elementary for the 2627 school year despite missing the age cutoff by only 3 hours,” Anderson said in public comment.
The board did not take a decision on the spot. Staff will need to confirm whether the district maintains any waiver or discretionary transfer process for age‑cutoff exceptions and, if none exists, provide a written explanation of the policy and the process that led to the decision described by Anderson.
