PEBB staff outline Medicare GLP‑1 bridge starting in July; $50 co‑pay per fill

Laura Ryan, the Health Care Authority’s retiree benefits manager, briefed the Public Employees Benefits Board on a new Medicare program that will provide early access to certain GLP‑1 medications for eligible Part D beneficiaries. Ryan emphasized that the bridge operates outside the usual Part D benefit and payment process: prior authorizations go to Humana and a member who fills an eligible drug will pay a $50 co‑pay per fill that “is not going to contribute to the true out of pocket maximum,” she said. The slide deck named the eligible GLP‑1 drugs the program will include, and Ryan said the bridge is intended to provide earlier access while CMS continues long‑term negotiations with manufacturers.
Board members asked whether the bridge applies to non‑retirees and how it interacts with existing medical plan coverage for certain diagnoses. Ryan said the bridge is a Medicare program for Part D enrollees and that members should expect Humana to handle the prior‑auth process; staff agreed to monitor Medicare communications and share talking points to reduce member confusion about who to contact for help.
