The city manager previewed National Night Out, describing partners, activities and giveaways planned at Lake Park and noting that boats and a helicopter would be part of the attractions. He said the event traditionally draws large numbers of children and family partners and that city staff and partner organizations would be present.
The manager also reported a safety concern: "apparently, a seaplane didn't land at the lake Saturday morning, Sunday is which is not allowed," and said the city is investigating the episode with the Federal Aviation Administration because the plane exceeded the 40‑mile per hour speed limit on takeoff. The manager said staff did not obtain the tail number and the plane took off after the event.
