Manager says Substation 6 needed to support growth; procurement may top $11.5M

Council members asked why Substation 6 is required. The city manager said a CEC master‑plan study supports the need: Substation 6 will take load from older substations, accommodate growth to the north and west and enable further residential and retail development after 2030.
"Substation 6 is just our future growth organically for residential, commercial, retail," the city manager said. "Basically, after about 2030, we can't add any new residential subdivisions or big retail end users or things of that nature." He added the procurement for Substation 6 could be around $11,500,000 and that lead times for equipment may be 36–48 months.
