Officials describe jail intake screening and mental-health triage procedures

Chief Deputy Anthony Buckner and Stan Wilford, director of operations for Wellpath, described the intake process at 201 Poplar: arrestees are screened at the sally port, asked about injuries, medications and mental-health history, and those who appear injured or impaired are sent to a regional hospital for evaluation.
Wilford said Wellpath maintains electronic medical records for many patients, conducts full histories and triage, and places individuals on suicide watch when warranted; he also said "We currently we have 10.2 FTEs" of master's-level mental-health professionals at the 201 facility, with psychiatric nurse practitioners and a psychiatrist available for higher-level care.
