Mayor Young outlined assignments that play to council member expertise, including outreach to schools and nonprofits, port and industrial stakeholders, and planning and permitting issues tied to Signature Development’s engagement with Valero.
Councilmembers expressed support for early, structured work: Council Member Scott called the effort a “pivotal moment” and urged the committees to produce actionable recommendations; others suggested focusing on cleanup, worker transition, and grant opportunities such as air‑district funds. The council voted to approve the appointments on a roll call.
