Several speakers during public comment asked that the council show visible support for the Mission Viejo Pride/Bridal event planned for June 21 at Saddleback College.
Paola Tremblay, a bilingual community liaison, invited council members and said the celebration would include vendors, live music and family activities. “Everyone is welcome, and I encourage you all on the board to join us,” she said (label 16). Multiple speakers—including Lacey Barragato, Haley Strangland, Lynn Holmes and others—urged the council to attend as an act of civic leadership and inclusion. “By showing up to this event, you're taking the first steps toward ending homophobia and transphobia in the city of Mission Viejo,” Barragato said (label 19).
Speakers framed attendance as both symbolic and practical: the event offers a safe space for LGBTQ families, presents a chance for Mission Viejo to demonstrate welcome to international athletes and visitors, and counters what some described as hostile or divisive rhetoric in other forums. Council did not vote on any special appropriation at the meeting; members noted the request and discussed public‑engagement goals during subsequent budget deliberations.
