Council approves adding an electric vehicle to city fleet

The City Council approved a staff recommendation to add an electric vehicle (EV) to the municipal fleet after a gasoline vehicle experienced a major engine failure. Operations Manager Corey Gagne said the city has about 40 vehicles and is gradually replacing units with hybrids or EVs as older vehicles retire. "We had a vehicle that the engine blew, and instead of repairing it, which is about the same cost of the vehicle itself, we are recommending to add another EV to the fleet and surplus that vehicle," Gagne said.
Councilmember Goodell framed the move as consistent with prior council direction to add EVs as part of routine fleet turnover, noting that purchases should include sound cost analyses. The motion to add the EV was moved and seconded and passed unanimously.
