Superintendent outlines strategic-plan rollout, bus-route review and community carnival

Superintendent Dr. Antonio Leighton Jr. delivered the district report, describing a recent work session with the Town of Taos to present the district's strategic plan and upcoming events. The strategic plan, he said, was approved by the board and is available online for public review; the district will distribute bound copies to board members and school sites.
Dr. Leighton said he asked the town to waive parking fees for a staff convocation at the TCA; town officials agreed and staff parking will be free at that event. He also promoted a resource and career carnival at Parr Field set for Aug. 6 from 3 to 6 p.m., with about 60 to 65 community partners hosting booths and volunteer support for students and families.
On transportation, the superintendent reported the district completed home visits in the Arroyo area to gather parental feedback on proposed bus-route rerouting aimed at balancing elementary enrollments and improving route efficiency. He said staff collected feedback and will prepare boundaries and a presentation for a future board meeting. "Before we even consider that or bring a presentation to the board, we had to get some parental feedback," he said.
Board members thanked staff and encouraged broader promotion for the carnival; staff said they will use school messaging and social media and attempt radio outreach the morning of the event.
