Board approves $28,000 Progress Learning assessment for Taos High

The Taos Municipal Schools Board voted Aug. 5 to purchase Progress Learning assessment tools for Taos High School at a cost of $28,000.
Melissa Eager, director of federal programs, said the platform is designed for high school use and aligns to PSAT and SAT content, allowing the school to run beginning-, mid- and end-of-year assessments and let teacher teams build common formative assessments. "The Taos High leadership is very excited about Progress Learning because this assessment is designed to be used in high school, and it is aligned with the PSAT and the SAT," Eager said.
Superintendent Dr. Antonio Leighton Jr. and other administrators framed the request as part of the district's newly approved strategic plan goal on assessments. "This actually aligns with our strategic plan because goal 3 is about assessments pertaining to each of the school sites," the superintendent said. Board member King asked for examples and Eager offered to have the high school principal include sample assessments in an upcoming board report. The board approved the expenditure by roll call.
