Hampton staff propose small wastewater rate hike to fund mandated repairs

"$240,000,000 is the most up to date cost estimates to repair the defects known in our wastewater system," Bowery said, and recommended a modest rate action: "We are recommending a 7¢ increase, to this user fee, bringing the new total to $2.52" and a 14¢ increase to the surcharge to fund capital projects. Staff showed that for a household using about 5,000 gallons monthly the combined rise would add roughly $1.41 per month to typical bills, and cautioned that skipping investments risks non‑compliance and potential fines from DEQ.
