A member praised the work, saying teachers would welcome fewer, clearer targets. The presentation also flagged gaps in assessment alignment with state and national normed measures such as the ACT and said teams will review internal assessments to better prepare students for those tests.
Staff outlined operational steps: teacher teams will unpack standards, identify skill progressions, work on vertical alignment across grades, and use early-release Professional Learning Community (PLC) time for unit planning and assessment alignment. Staff also said the district aims to publish a public dashboard this fall linking each grade and subject to curricular resources and unit plans so families can see learning expectations.
A board member moved that the committee recommend the full board adopt the academic standards as presented; the motion received a second and passed by voice vote, with the Chair declaring the motion carries. The transcript does not record a roll-call tally.
