Following adoption of the mission statement, the commission held an extended brainstorming session to identify goals for 2025–2026. Commissioners suggested leveraging existing collaborations, holding roundtables or a summit to network nonprofits and safety-net providers, and launching public relations efforts to raise awareness of available services and volunteer opportunities.
Commissioner comments included calls to "further promote and integrate existing collaborative efforts" and to broaden community engagement by reaching people in their 20s–40s who may not know how to volunteer locally. Ideas included commissioners attending partner-group meetings as liaisons, hosting roundtables on safety-net topics, and creating summit-style networking events to foster ongoing cooperation. Several commissioners proposed reconnecting with the school district to enable youth–elder projects such as student interviews with seniors to record local history.
Commissioners also discussed constraints: the commission meets six times a year, and staff recommended using ad hoc groups or limited commissioner liaisons rather than numerous formal subcommittees. Director Dunleavy offered to research successful models used by other commissions and to return with options for structuring ad hoc work and committee participation at the next meeting.
