"I believe that we can do all of the plants and get the signage and everything for less than, $3,000," the presenter said, noting last year's total bill was about $2,900 for downtown planters. The proposal would have the village provide plants and soil while businesses, families or clubs sign up to adopt and maintain individual planters; adopters would receive a small sign naming the sponsor. The presenter said DeKalb High School has already reserved the plants and that the program could be promoted in the next utility-bill newsletter and on Facebook.
Committee members discussed logistics, the number and locations of planters downtown (rectangular planters on Route 30 and hexagonal planters across town), and the feasibility of volunteers maintaining plantings for seasonal displays including red, white and blue blooms for America's 250. The committee agreed the presenter should prepare a formal proposal and request funding on the regular board agenda so the purchase (approximately $2,500–$3,000) can be approved before plant delivery.
