Brooks County approves motorized gate, electrical work and new ramp lights at county airport

Judge Eric Ramos said the gate project will be covered through a RAMP grant and reimbursed at 90% of the expense. Bond Cosby told the court that the existing gate was obsolete: "the gate is old and doesn't meet FDA standards." The court approved the D&C Fence bid in the amount of $20,085.00 on a motion by Commissioner Eduardo "Eddie" Garza and a second by Commissioner Rolando Gutierrez. The court separately approved an AEP proposal for electrical work costing $14,162.22 (moved by Commissioner Aaron Trevino, seconded by Commissioner Nora Salinas) and accepted a single bid from B-C Company Inc. for ramp lighting replacement at $17,272.00 (moved by Commissioner Trevino, seconded by Commissioner Gutierrez). All three motions passed by unanimous roll-call votes.
County officials said the upgrades address safety and infrastructure needs at the airport. Work is expected to proceed under the RAMP grant reimbursement terms; no implementation timeline was provided during the meeting.
