Library director flags end of grant funding for teen internship program

At the May 20 meeting the Library and Cultural Services director reported that a grant that funded teen internships is ending and that the department currently does not have replacement funding. "The grant is ending. And, as of now, it doesn't look like there will be funding for that going forward," the director said, adding that staff are exploring paid internships for summer, free opportunities or school partnerships to provide credit.
The director also highlighted a free STEAM spring break camp for 23 children that included OCSD participation and fingerprinting demonstrations, and said recruitment is open for two senior librarian positions with broader librarian recruitment to follow. Commissioners thanked library staff and asked the department to continue exploring funding and partnerships to sustain the internship pathway.
