Assembly endorses JBER recapitalization, adds housing language

The Anchorage Assembly unanimously approved AR 2026‑224 on Aug. 4 supporting Department of the Air Force recapitalization in Alaska and urging increased housing and infrastructure to support military families. Vice chair Voland proposed amendments to frame the resolves as a municipality‑level commitment and to reference the assembly's housing action plan; those amendments passed 12–0, and the final resolution did as well.
Voland said the changes were intended to make the document a shared commitment between the executive and legislative branches and to reference existing municipal housing policies. "The bottom line is to support the recapitalization of JBER and our military and family personnel who are here and will be here," the mayor said during discussion. Members also added language encouraging innovative housing approaches including public‑private partnerships and leveraging municipally owned land for multifamily construction. The amended resolution passed unanimously.
