Board members urge clearer public statements after audit review

A number of committee members urged a public statement to reassure residents after the audit review found account-posting problems and a temporary negative general-fund balance. Committee members said transparency is important because some residents have asked whether there had been secret or unexplained actions before the new board was seated. The treasurer and the auditor said they would provide additional written explanation and the auditor agreed to deliver an updated draft of the financial statements so the committee could approve a clear summary for public release.
The committee agreed to consider language and timing at its December meeting and to include any agreed statement in the utility-bill newsletter that accompanies bills mailed in January.
