The Los Olivos Police Services District board authorized an engagement with MLH for audit services at a fee of $5,500.
The general manager explained the statutory intent behind rotating auditors and presented the board with a policy choice: retain the existing firm (at lower cost) or switch to a new firm. Counsel advised there was no legal impediment to staying with the prior firm if the board prefers, but a new set of eyes may add value. A motion to contract with MLH for $5,500 was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
Board members said the district’s currently simple financial structure does not present a high audit risk, but they noted costs could rise substantially if the district takes on larger grant portfolios or construction projects in the future.
