The Sesser-Valier Community Unit School District No. 196 Board of Education held a special goal-setting workshop on Nov. 14, 2024, led by Patrick Allen of the Illinois Association of School Boards. President Shane Garner called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM in Room 107 (Dorris Classroom), and the Superintendent recorded roll with seven board members present.
Allen guided the board and staff through a review of the district's core values and beliefs and led a revision exercise for the District mission statement. Participants then drafted possible district-wide goals for further consideration. The group periodically divided into three smaller subgroups to develop proposals and reconvened to summarize each subgroup's work.
According to the minutes, Allen said he would compile the materials produced during the workshop and provide a follow-up report to the district outlining next steps in the goal-setting process. The board did not adopt any formal goals or policies during the special meeting; the minutes state explicitly that "no formal action was taken."
