Board approves quick-claim deed to clear North Main Street property title

Chair Daniel described a title concern for a roughly 1,300-square-foot area of sidewalk/right-of-way adjacent to a downtown Watkinsville building and recommended the county quitclaim that strip to the property owner to clear title.
“It’s the only real record we have what the original Town Square looked like because, apparently, the map that showed it officially was burned in courthouse,” Chair Daniel said, explaining why the quitclaim would clarify ownership. The board heard that the county retains parking spaces in front of the building and that the transfer would not affect those spaces. A motion to approve the quitclaim deed as submitted was made, seconded and passed by voice vote.
The deed approval was presented as a title-clearing step to resolve an apparent historic gap and staff recommended the quitclaim to BSC Properties, LLC.
