The South Weber City Council voted to adopt Resolution 25-27 appointing the city’s 911 emergency services provider after a short discussion about the solicitation timeline.
Councilman Windsor expressed concern about the nine-day window for additional bids, saying it was too short to allow meaningful responses from potential providers and recommending at least a two-week period or a letter of intent. "If you make it too short, we'll never know nor did the public get an adequate amount of, due diligence to it," Windsor said.
City staff responded that the timeline followed the example of nearby cities that have completed similar transitions and that major providers were monitoring solicitations. Dave, a city staff member, said the city had modeled the process on other municipalities in Davis County and that some large providers had sent letters to larger nearby cities. The motion to approve the resolution was moved, seconded and carried on a roll call vote.
The debate focused narrowly on procurement timing rather than on provider qualifications; no speaker argued against appointing a provider, and council members proceeded to adopt the resolution. The council also approved a separate letter in support of the fire department’s EMS relicensure in the same sequence of votes.
