The Albemarle County School Board voted to enter a closed session to consult with legal counsel about an independent investigation into personnel matters and the division's policies addressing allegations of inappropriate conduct by staff.
The motion cited the Code of Virginia and the Virginia Freedom of Information Act's closed-session provisions. After the closed session, a certification motion stated that, to the best of each board member's knowledge, only properly exempted public business was discussed during the closed meeting.
"Pursuant to, code 15.2-1418 of the Code of Virginia and consistent with ACPS school board policy BDB, only matters specifically noted in the public notice shall be considered during the special meeting," the chair said in explaining the legal basis for the closed session.
Board members indicated some investigatory details may not be shareable with the public due to legal constraints and asked for public patience while the process proceeds.
The board returned to open session, certified the closed-session compliance by recorded vote, and then moved on to authorize the independent investigation.
