Commission to review future land-use map at Aug. 18 work session

Community Development staff told the commission the city’s current future land‑use map resembles a future zoning map and that staff plan to present a revised, less prescriptive map at the Aug. 18 work session.
Danny said the revised map would use broader categories (for example, "neighborhood districts" instead of R‑1, R‑2) and include definitions and implementation strategies for each category. ‘‘Our current future land use map is essentially a future zoning map because all the land use categories are exactly our zoning, code or zoning districts,’’ Danny said, and staff want a map that better reflects community vision rather than directly prescribing future zoning.
The commission discussed logistics for the Aug. 18 session, the need for good audiovisual arrangements for maps and public input, and quorum availability. Staff asked commissioners to confirm availability so the session can proceed or be rescheduled if too many members are unavailable.
