DPW outlines ADA bathroom renovation; library to close week of Aug. 17

The Harwinton Public Library board heard detailed plans Aug. 3 from Justin Downed of the Department of Public Works about an ADA-compliant bathroom renovation that will require moving a wall approximately 1 foot into the community room. Downed told the board the library will be closed for the week of 8/17 for construction but that staff may use the building on Wednesday and Thursday of that week. He said all fixtures — lights, vents, sinks and toilets — will be replaced and both restrooms will include changing tables.
Downed asked that electrical costs be itemized so they can be covered by a grant and said the automatic-door work will follow the electrical work scheduled with the bathroom renovation. Director Alice Freiler was told she needs HVAC cost estimates and specifications for a grant application due by the end of August. A building committee is to be established in August as required by the grant.
