Finance staff presented a supplemental FY2026 request totaling $2,993,000 to address several identified shortfalls. The package listed $255,000 for snow and ice removal, $1,650,000 for the teacher retirement pension contribution under House Bill 352, $75,000 to seed a Prudent RX specialty medication benefit, $45,500 for mosquito control, $17,500 for an animal services vehicle lighting package and $750,000 for increased detention center costs tied to inmate health care provided under contract.
The finance presenter recommended funding the adjustment by increasing estimated FY2026 income tax revenue based on stronger‑than‑expected collections. "On June 10, the board of county commissioners adopted the fiscal year 2026 budget, which appropriated approximately $385,000,000 for general fund operating expenses," the presenter said, then walked through the specific supplemental requests.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the detention center contract and other items; the sheriff explained that contract increases reflect higher provider wages for medical staff. After receiving public comment and questioning, the board voted to close the record and adopt budget amendment BA2026‑000204.
