Staff noted that collection operations have become costlier because of maintenance, staffing demands, equipment wear, and a recent spike in garbage volume; they also referenced recent significant maintenance expenses for the rear-load garbage truck. Committee consensus favored simplifying the classification structure while retaining flexibility to adjust rates later.
A motion to recommend approval of the proposed garbage fee schedule and business classification updates was made by Alderman DiFonzo and seconded by Larson. The vote was recorded Yea: Christensen, DiFonzo, Larson. The committee's recommendation will go forward for further review and formal consideration by the City Council.
