Calvert County commissioners on Oct. 7 approved a budget amendment reflecting an additional $172,313.20 in federal FEMA funds to cover cost overruns for an elevation project at 2903 Beach Drive.
Emergency Management staff told the board the project was awarded in 2017 and has encountered rising supply and labor costs that pushed the project beyond the original budget. "FEMA has approved a revised budget for the project, increasing the total from $129,788.25 to $302,101.45," an Emergency Management representative said, adding FEMA will contribute the additional $172,313.20 and the homeowner will be responsible for an additional $67,017.66. The county acts as a subrecipient and must forward‑fund the federal share and request reimbursement as expenses are incurred.
Commissioners asked whether other projects remain in process; staff said some acquisitions and elevations funded in 2016–2017 are complete, several remain in the pipeline (Long Beach, Burns Island, Cliff House acquisition), and the office maintains a rotating pool of interested homeowners. The board closed the record and adopted the budget amendment.
