Tom Kidder, chair of the Tucker Mountain Town Forest Management Committee, presented the proposed Tucker Mountain Town Forest Ordinance and outlined the enactment process, including a 60-day public comment period and the need for rules on open hours and enforcement. The committee has budgeted for some Sheriff’s Department patrol time and said a permitting process for camping will be needed to manage use.
The Board discussed amendments to the draft. Members agreed the committee should not be listed as the enforcer of vehicular traffic, that event guidelines should be tied to the Town Facilities Use Policy, and that the roles of the Selectboard and the committee on hunting and trapping should be clarified. The Board reviewed emergency gate-closure authority and expectations for dogs. Chair Susan Culp will re-draft the ordinance to incorporate the agreed amendments for the May 27 meeting.
