Council told chief deputy will retire Jan. 2; recommendation to promote sergeant pending approval

An agency official (S6) told the council that Chief Deputy McFarland submitted a letter of intent to retire, saying, “January 2 would be his last official day.” The official said he had provided the letter to the town manager (Mister Henderson referenced) and council members, and proposed promoting Sergeant Henderson to fill the chief-deputy position subject to council approval.
The official said the department will leave the sergeant position open for now and is considering two candidates who have completed the police academy to fill the opening. Chair (S3) and the council agreed acceptance of the resignation and planned a future meeting to formally consider the promotion and fill the vacancies.
