District reports dashboard indicators: 823 teaching FTEs, higher student safety metrics

Kathleen Sorensen, the district's Director of Educational Services, presented required local indicators to the board as part of LCAP adoption and the California School Dashboard process. She said the district reported 823 total teaching full‑time equivalents for the 2024–25 reporting year, with 12 teachers categorized as "out of field," 21 interns (typically special-education teachers in credentialing programs), and four teachers on emergency permits. Sorensen contrasted EUSD's 1.45% out-of-field rate with the statewide rate of 4.3% and said the district is "doing very well" on credentialing and staffing.
Sorensen walked through implementation status on state priorities, including instructional materials, professional learning (Empower Ed and K–2 literacy institutes), and parent engagement. On school climate, she said results from the California Healthy Kids Survey show improvement toward pre‑COVID levels, citing that "77 percent of our 5th graders who responded said that they feel safe at school most of the time," and that 7th‑grade measures improved to about 61 percent reporting they feel safe most of the time. Sorensen said the local indicators and accompanying data will be published with the regular 2026 dashboard in October.
