Superintendent McGuire and district staff framed the committee's purpose around shifting technology from "consumption" to "production," urging evaluation of current vendor contracts and classroom expectations. “The role is not, for consumption. It's for production,” a presenter said when describing the desired change in instructional use. Staff also signaled an intention to clarify existing expectations for time spent on programs like i-Ready and to address misconceptions.
Board member discussion focused on committee size, representation (including paras, librarians and CSEA or employee group reps), and the recommendation that the committee begin organizing in August and meet in September. The motion to form the committee passed with board consensus and the board agreed Doug would begin outreach as the initial board member liaison to start the work.
