Presenter from Team Pease pitches weeklong summer bike camp for Orleans children

A founder of Team Pease told the board she started the nonprofit in 2019 to help children with emotional regulation and leadership skills and asked for the town’s blessing and practical support for a new bike camp proposal.
The presenter described programming that pairs physical activity with relationship-building and self-regulation exercises. “The dates we're looking at are June 22 through 26th of 20 26, and we're looking at starting doing more of a morning camp before it gets too hot,” the presenter said, adding the target ages are 7 to 13 with teens serving as mentors. She said Team Pease already works in seven schools and is in all three Orleans County schools.
Council participants and attendees suggested pursuing national funding sources and partnerships with local agencies and nonprofits, and discussed logistics such as using an Orleans Schools parking lot as a staging area and reserving parts of the Monon Trail through Radius for camp activities. The presenter said Orleans Tri Kappa has committed to buying 30 bike helmets and that about 10 bikes have been donated so far; organizers aim to supply bikes free or low-cost for children who lack them.
The presenter asked for follow-up and conversation with town staff and police about safety involvement but emphasized she did not expect major street closures. The board thanked the presenter and encouraged follow-up conversations to nail down schedules, responsibilities and any needed permissions.
