The Garland Plan Commission approved a Specific Use Permit request that will allow Omega Shipping X Inc. to operate a truck/bus repair facility at 2430 Lanaker Drive, subject to staff‑recommended conditions and a 15‑year time limit.
City planner Kalyan outlined the proposal: “The applicant requests this SUP in conjunction with the existing truck or bus storage use.” He said the concept plan includes a 3,200‑square‑foot service building with three service bays, 33 truck parking slips, screening landscaping and a mural required to cover a minimum of 25% of the street‑facing elevation.
Commissioners questioned hours of operation and the mural standard; staff said working hours were proposed by the applicant and that murals are governed by the Garland Development Code’s definitions and standards. Commissioners also asked that, if approved, the new SUP run concurrently with the existing 2022 SUP so both would expire together; the maker amended the motion to include that concurrency. The commission unanimously approved the amended motion.
Conditions specified that outdoor repair and maintenance activity be prohibited, additional ornamental plantings be provided to screen the truck‑parking area, and hours be limited to weekdays and Saturday hours noted in the staff report. Staff noted the applicant had requested a 20‑year period, but recommended a 15‑year SUP.
