Calvert County Planning Commission approves priority funding area designation for Calvert Country School site

Calvert County Planning Commission members voted to find that a Calvert County Public Schools parcel at 1450 Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick is consistent with the county comprehensive plan and eligible for a priority funding area (PFA) designation.
Tay Harris, long‑range planner for the Department of Planning and Zoning, explained staff’s recommendation and cited state guidance: "the site is eligible for a PFA designation under section 5 7 B-three of the State and Finance Procurement Article." Harris said the site is adjacent to an existing Prince Frederick PFA, is designated growth tier 1A on the county tier map and is currently served by private water and sewer owned by the Board of Public Education but is planned for connection to the Prince Frederick sewer and water service areas following site redevelopment.
Commissioners moved to find the request consistent with the Calvert County comprehensive plan, the motion was seconded, and the commission approved the recommendation by voice vote (recorded in the meeting as 6–0). The commission’s action affirms staff’s finding and allows the PFA certification process to proceed in coordination with the school redevelopment timeline and applicable state procedures.
