Waynesville council adopts $17,000 emergency contract to repair catch basins

The Village of Waynesville council on Sept. 3 amended and adopted Ordinance No. 2024-028 as an emergency to authorize a contract with Fed Excavating, Inc. for repair of existing catch basins in the municipal stormwater system. Council members approved the move to emergency status and the adoption on a 6-0 roll call.
Council debate on the second reading included a motion by Mr. Zack Gallagher to add emergency status and a second by Mr. Brian Blankenship; Mr. Troy Lauffer then moved to adopt the amended ordinance as an emergency, seconded by Mr. Gallagher. The ordinance authorizes the Village Manager to enter a contract in an amount not to exceed $17,000. No executive session was recorded on the item.
The action is intended to accelerate repairs ahead of seasonal weather and events; Chief Copeland had earlier asked that the catch-basin replacement ordinance be amended to pass as an emergency to allow replacements before the Sauerkraut Festival.
