Board removes lodging from trustee travel request, approves amended travel reimbursement

President Brianna Briones asked whether lodging complied with the district’s travel policy for conferences within 50 miles; Briones said the policy allows overnight accommodations only with prior approval when the event is within that radius.
Trustee Ricardo Padilla objected strongly to Briones’ line of questioning, saying, "Leave mister Nguyen alone. Let him attend his conference and not worry about where he's gonna sleep or spend the night." President Briones defended her inquiry as fiscal oversight, saying it was appropriate to question lodging for an event within driving distance. The board voted to amend the travel authorization by removing lodging (leaving registration, meals and mileage) and later approved the amended travel report; the amended item passed by voice vote.
