El Monte Union trustees honor Arroyo softball, South El Monte baseball and district parent volunteers

The El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustees used its June 17 special meeting to celebrate student and family contributions across the district, presenting certificates to Arroyo High School’s softball team, South El Monte High School’s baseball team and multiple parent volunteers.
“We're here to support our students, and we see it in this room right now,” Board President Brianna Briones said as she led the recognitions. Superintendent Dr. Zuniga and local principals acknowledged long playoff runs and community support, and Principal Gabriel Flores described long bus trips and the team’s perseverance during the season. Several student-athletes and coaches accepted awards and brief remarks from the dais.
The board also recognized parent volunteers from several campuses for service that included PTSA revitalization, band booster leadership and English Learner advocacy. Principal speakers highlighted specific contributions: one principal said the honoree had participated in dozens of district workshops and served on ELAC and site council. The board named Miriam Sandoval as the district Parent Volunteer of the Year and read her record of participation, including more than 45 district workshops.
